Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked the Congress during his first visit to Sonia Gandhi’s parliamentary constituency Raebareli on Sunday. He accused the Congress party of compromising the national security, spreading lies about Rafale deal and said that the nation will never forget the party’s attitude towards the armed forces during their regime.
Addressing a gathering at modern rail coach factory ground, the PM said, There are some people who get embarrassed and have issues in chanting Bharat Mata ki Jai’. They only want to abuse me but why is the security of the nation being compromised. They raise questions on surgical strike; trust enemies, and also call the Army chief ‘gunda’. What can we expect from them? Some people deliver speech here but clapping is done in Pakistan.”

Hitting hard over the Rafale issue Modi said, They only know how to spread, eat and chew lie. They have no trust in the Defence Ministry. They also have no faith in the statement made by the French Government and the Supreme Court’s decision. Congress’ history has been Bofors scam and giving benefits to middlemen like Ottavio Quattrocchi and Christian Michel. To save Michel, Congress fielded a lawyer, but for us country is above party.”
Modi also gave details claiming how the Congress during the UPA regime failed to fulfill demands of the armed forces.
It will take weeks for me to tell about the sins made by the Congress party. In 2009 our armed forces demanded 1,86,000 bullet proof jackets from the Government. This demand was completely ignored and when we came to power we got the jackets delivered to our jawans. The issue of One Rank One Pension (OROP) was pending for past 40 years, but we fulfilled the demands of ex-servicemen, added the PM.
The PM after inaugurating 900th coach at the modern rail coach factory and flagging off the Humsafar rake also accused the previous governments of ignoring development work in Raebareli.
In 2010, rail coach factory was built here with the target to manufacture 2,000 coaches every year. For four years parts of coaches were brought from Kapurthala and minor assembling was only done here. Till then only three per cent of the machines were operating in this factory. However, 711 coaches were manufactured last year and we hope it go beyond 1,400. In future around 5,000 coaches will be manufactured here including those of metro and high speed trains. We aim to make this factory a global hub, PM Modi said.
Accusing the Congress party of ignoring farmers, the PM said, Congress has promised a loan waiver but it’s all a lie. They also promised waiving farmer loan in Karnataka but it hasn’t been implemented. In 2007, there was a debt of `6 lakh crore but only `7,000 crore were waived off. They also failed to implement the Swaminathan Committee report on increasing the minimum support price (MSP). The farmers were benefited after we came to power.”
The PM also laid the foundation stone for expansion of rail coach factory with an investment of Rs 480 crore and setting up hostels and new health units at AIIMS in Raebareli. He also inaugurated the reformed Raebareli-Banda highway during his visit.
Responding to Modi’s attack, senior Congress leader Anand Sharma said, The reply can only be a given if a person is speaking the truth. We don’t give importance to those who started their tenure with a lie. Lying is in his DNA. He is going to Kumbh after speaking all lies. Now people have understood this.
